My 1934 Knabe Baby Grand piano which I had since I was 8 years old was in desperate need of total restoring and refinishing. My choice for this overhaul was David Tennett. It was gone for 5 months and when I saw it again I could not believe what a beautiful job he had done. I was transported back in time to what it must have looked like in a showroom in 1934 and was grateful it reappeared in the same condition as it must have been then. David loves his work and it shows in his ability and his sharing of many tales of how he arrived at this present time as the preeminent piano restorer.

In the mid 1950', my grandfather, a professional musician, acquired for my mother a Steinway B when I was a baby. I grew up with that piano and am now a professional pianist, music director, and composer. I had been told my 1923 black-lacquered Steinway had been custom made for a famous pianist in San Francisco.

After decades the action needed work so badly that I didn'y even play my piano much through the 90's and 2000's. Deciding to have it rebuilt by David Tennett was the smartest thing I ever did ! I'll never know if my late mother and grandfather knew this, but David Tennett discovered underneath the black-lacquered finish a custom made walnut piano, which is more valuable.

Read the book: PIANO: THE MAKING OF A STEINWAY CONCERT GRAND by James Barron, and you'll understand all David Tennett goes through to take the piano apart and refinish and rebuild it with all knew parts. Now I think of David every time I look at my Steinway, and play it now for hours every day. His work will last my lifetime and beyond!

Dave Tennett is a master craftsman in piano rebuilding and refinishing. He transformed a run down, non playable 1900 Steinway "A" into a magnificent looking and sounding instrument at a fraction of the cost of a comparable new one-and a new one wouldn't be as good. I am now inspired by the wonderful sound and performance of this piano to practice on a regular basis as I did years ago in college when I was a music/piano performance major. Investing in this rebuilt and refinished Steinway was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I'm a little late in writing this as I've been enjoying the fruits of David's labor for about a month now. I recently purchased the Plumsteadville Inn and found a beat up barely recognizable piano sitting on wobbly legs in the middle of the dinning room. Had I not been tipped off that it could be restored I probably would have thrown it out. Luckily after several fact finding calls we ended up with Mr. Tennett at our restaurant and he assured us that we had a one of a kind piano that would be well worth fixing. The results were incredible !! From a pile of kindling DGT restored and refurbished an 1894 Steinway Grand to showroom condition. People can't believe it's the same piano. I am ecstatic with the finished result and musicians from all over have been overjoyed at the opportunity to be able to play such a beautiful classic. I can not say enough good things about the professionalism and courtesy we have enjoyed in associating with DGT. I highly recommend to anyone with a piano to repair, to check out the wonderful job DGT did with ours.
