Gluing ribs to new soundboard!

Fitting new soundboard to rim of piano.

Cutting new soundboard to shape of rim. The next step is to fit soundboard tight to rim.

New ribs shaped and fit to inner rim.

Selection and fitting of rib stock to inner rim of Steinway “B”.

Original action removed from Steinway B during restoration process.

Bechstein refinished in satin ebony. The instrument is a family heirloom brought to the US from World War II Germany.

Original soundboard removed from instrument. Care is taken when removing the original soundboard so there is no damage to the case or inner rim.

Steinway “B” is set up and original soundboard is removed. Next the glue from the inner rim will be removed.

Steinway “B” is set up and ready to start restoration. Now is the time to take measurements and locations of all the parts of the instrument.
